Day 22 - Cycle 75 km via Glace Bay to Sydney

Our last day, hard to believe 3 weeks has gone by. Had a clear sunny day. The road was quite and scenic on the way to Glacé Bay.

The Cape Breton Miners' Museum in Glace Bay.

The ride into Sydney from Glace Bay was on a busy main road. All arrived safe and sound at our hotel and as you see below got right to packing the bikes.

This ends our Maritime tour. The definition of a successful trip is when all the riders arrive safely, have had a good time and when you can say you have made many new friends. This has been a very successful trip. Group #2 wish to thank Jill and Dan for the hard work they put into planning the tour and providing the excellent trip maps. We also want to thank Yvonne and Les for their leadership, patience and guidance on the trip.

It's been fun capturing the images and the stories of the trip. I hope you have enjoyed the blog. Rob

Day 21 - Free Day. To visit the Fortress of Louisbourg

Entering the Fortress of Louisbourg we were required to give the secret password which none of us knew. The guard took pity on us and let us pass.

The first thing that strikes you as you enter this fortified town, is the attention and detail applied in restoring it to how it was in 1744.

All the exhibits had staff dressed to the period.

Here we were shown the country dance of the time to the music of a harpsichord.

Guards and drummers marching out to demonstrate the firing of muskets.

We finished our day with our farewell dinner back at our motel.

Day 20 - Cycle 96 km to Louisbourg

Our day proved to be the warmest of the trip. Group #2 decided not to go on the route involving gravel road and shuttling. The first leg on Hwy 223 was very pleasant. The Hwy 125 was very busy in and around the Sydney exits.

Adele continued to have problems with flats with her front tire. The van took her into a bike shop to replace the tire.

That evening we took in "One night.....in a Cape Breton Kitchen 2" at the Louisbourg Playhouse.

The music was fabulous. We really were taken with Erin Martell. The rhythm she created on the wooden box created a lively toe tapping beat. As a singer she is very talented. We expect to hear more of Erin as she becomes better known.

Evening Day 19 at the Highland Heights Inn

Our evening and accommodation deserve their own chapter in our Blog. When we arrived at the Highland Heights Inn we received a warm welcome from Susan the proprietor. She had coffee, muffins and cookies waiting for us. The Inn had a commanding view of the Barra Strait and the bridge.

Susan Stubbert-Samways (the proprietor) with Lynne and Marg.

The Inn dinning room was delightful and served up a great dinner.

After dinner Donnie Campbell a local singer spent the evening entertaining us with his songs and whit. The end to a great day.

Day 19 - Cycle 50 km via the Little Narrows ferry to Iona

Our ride was a short hop along the lake to the Little Narrows ferry. The day started with misty rain. The temperature was warm and humid to start.

This is what an 8:30am loading time looks like in the CCCTS.

The ferry crossing.

A highlight of the day was going up to the Highland Village. We got to experience Nova Scotia's Gaelic culture, heritage and hospitality.

Actors played their parts to the time period for each of the exhibits. Had their story to tell as well as well as answer questions we had of the times they were from.

Yvonne stepped right into the roll in the old school house.

The behavior of her class was a little questionable.

Day 18 -Free Day for activities around Baddeck

Woke to another fine day, ideal to explore Baddeck. Many of us started by going to the Alexander Graham Bell Museum.

The museum visit was very worth while. Was fascinating learning not just about his work on the first telephone, but also aviation and hydrofoils, amoung many other achievements.

Elizabeth was the only brave one to go for a swim. She also joined a number of us on a sailing cruse.

A view of the Bell summer residence.

DayDay 17 - Cycle 85 km via the Margaree Valley to Baddeck

What a glorious day. Clear sky and breathtaking seascape, doesn't get any better than this.

Stopped back in at the restaurant in Margaree Harbour for coffee.

Margaree Harbour, what a change from two days earlier.

In Baddeck, we stayed at the Telegraph House, where we met up with Group #1 for happy hour
